We now offer restoration services!

Hi, everyone! I have good news!

I am pleased to announce I now offer professional art and frame restoration services. I have partnered with Roger Nielsen of Master Framers, Inc. in St. Paul, MN, who has more than 30 years experience in art and frame restoration and gilding.

Roger's work is nationally known. His gilded, restored, and closed corner frames hang in the the Minneapolis Institute of Art (my favorite museum), the famous Bush Library, and even the Smithsonian Institute in Washgington, D.C. He is so well known in the framing industry that other framers and gilders go to him for advice and training.

Roger also specializes in compo corners ("compo" is short for "composition"). If you love the look of those old Spanish, French (think Louis XVI), or German frames, with their heavily decorated corners, I can help you! Roger will mold corners from your exisiting frame, or design and build custom decorative corners for you.

Roger is also a trained and accomplished artist, which means he can match the texture and color of any work of art, from oils on canvas to vintage photographs. For example, I brought him a badly damaged heirloom photo. He repaired the torn areas and matched the gray and sepia tones of the image, eliminating all scratches. He also painstakingly restored the frame, matching the new areas with the frame's aged finish. Upon completion, the piece is a flawlessly restored work of art.

When she first saw it, the customer's eyes filled with tears. She had assumed her great-grandparents' photo was ruined....Thanks to Roger, it was good as new (I mean old). :)

If you have artwork or frames in need of tender loving care, please bring them to Black Iris Custom Framing. I will deliver them personally to Roger, who will restore your items as requested.
